How DXC Archived Over 1 Million ServiceNow Records with Zero Data Left Behind, Leveraging Precision Bridge
DXC Technology completed a large-scale ServiceNow data archiving project, together with Precision Bridge, the Data Migration and Management Platform, ahead of decommissioning an existing ServiceNow instance. The project supported an internal audit requirement, archiving Incident, Problem, Change and Knowledge data, together with associated comments and attachments, from a cloud-based ServiceNow instance, with all data moved to an on-premise PostgreSQL database, with attachment files stored on the file system of the same server, and nothing left behind on the legacy instance.
DXC worked closely with Precision Bridge's support team to run the migration of more than 1 million records, sharing responsibility for the implementation across the project. The most complex aspect was attachment handling, working through hidden attachment types and records without an active parent to correctly identify what could be migrated, with DXC receiving clear justification for the very small number of items that could not be included. Precision Bridge's team provided rapid response throughout, ensuring DXC could keep the project moving without delay.
DXC successfully archived over 1 million records, including Incident, Problem, Change and Knowledge data with associated comments and attachments, from their live ServiceNow instance, with the project completed in under a month.
"Even with over a million records of data, Precision Bridge and the Data Migration and Management Platform gave us a fast, reliable path through some genuinely complex attachment requirements. The responsiveness we experienced throughout meant we could keep moving without delay. It's a great foundation for working together going forward." — Naj Rahman, Project Manager, DXC Technology.
DXC confirmed they would use Precision Bridge again for future migration and archiving projects, and is recommending Precision Bridge as a baseline approach to other account teams within the organisation.
